The Green Survival team transformed an inhospitable hot quadrangle into a cool comfortable courtyard.
We faithfully followed the plan, directions and brief given by the landscape architects, Beth Wilson, to give the pleasing result of a cool leafy courtyard that provides for a multiple of uses.
Difficulties encountered in the construction were:
Tight access only allowing smaller machinery
Bluestone rock seams running with 300mm of surface.
Bulk of construction to be completed within the end of year school holidays.
Limited supply of materials during the holiday period.

The Resulting courtyard has brought much joy and happiness to the children and staff at Ironside state school. As all construction elements (hardscapes) have been installed following basic principles of good construction (esp. drainage) the courtyard will continue to provide all that the school desired of it. The plant life installed (softscapes) was also done so following strong horticultural principles. eg the high quality organic soil was fortified with a water saving product (called Hydrocell ) (hardwearing hybrid turf was installed to increase the durability.)
And automatic irrigation system together with good drainage ensures the plant life will continue to deliver a pleasant leafy colourfull environment.
