'Pergola at Bulimba'

The client's brief was to transform a tired seldom used courtyard, into one that requires less maintenance and extends the livability of the unit.

We used timber that was mostly sourced from a shearing shed. The old look was reinforced by the use of Boral "Bradstone" paving.

The deck and platforms, whilst not attached to the unit; do provide easy transition from the unit to the various levels of garden, deck and side path.

The pergola provides an airy space with a welcome moving shade. It does this whilst conveying strength and durability. The slats used on the roof were once the floor boards for the shearing shed. They have been infused with lanolin over years of use. This will ensure many more years of useful existence.

The bench seat provides seating for those waiting for their meal to cook on the barbecue, located on the specially reinforced deck extension.

The transformed courtyard now provides an easily used space that is welcoming and multifunctional. The materials used will not only provide a very long lasting, durable space but provide the added comfort of having locked up a great quantity of carbon.
